한옥은 한국의 전통적인 목구조 방식으로 지어진 건물을 아우르는 이름입니다. 기능에 따라 궁집, 절집, 살림집 여러 가지 종류의 한옥이 있지만, 그중에서도 일상적인 삶과 문화를 담아왔던 살림집 한옥은 한국 전통 건축의 원형입니다. 집주인의 사회적 계층과 건축 재료에 따라 기와집, 초가집, 너와집 등 여러 가지 지붕 모양 한옥이 있지만, 그중에서도 기와집은 한옥을 대표하는 집입니다. The name hanok refers to a building with traditional Korean wood-frame construction. These traditional buildings took the form of palaces (gung-jip), temples (jeol-jip), and houses (salim-jip). Depending on the social status of the owners, houses were made with tiled roof (giwa-jip), thatched roof (choga-jip) or wooden roof (neowa-jip). The tiled-roof house or giwa-jip is the most popular and representative type of hanok house. ...Today Seoul is a city with over 10-million residents and boats over 10,000 units of tiled-roof hanok houses. They were built continuously from the Joseon dynasty(1392~1910) to the present time.
무무헌Mumuheon 현대인의 삶을 위한 집이다. 내부 지향적인 중정형 건물로 마당을 중심으로 집 안 내부에 풍부한 경관이 조성되는 것 또한 도시형 한옥인 이 집의 특징이다. (중략) 대체적으로는 전통 한옥의 모습을 하고 있지만 현대인의 삶을 위한 편의시설과 그를 위한 기계장치가 숨어 있다. 주방 한쪽의 서까래가 드러난 복도는 분명 전통적인 방식과는 거리가 있다. 하지만 이것은 안방에서 주방으로 직접 연결되는 실내 동선을 만들면서 생겨난 결과다. 문방사우가 정갈하게 놓여 있는 건넌방의 벽장문을 열면 이 집의 신경 중추들이 드러난다. 냉난방 등과 관련된 각종 조절 장치는 물론이고 오디오, 나아가 무선 인터넷 장비까지 이 작은 공간에 빼곡하게 들어서 있다.

The Mumuheon is a thoroughly modern hanok. It is walled courtyard-based structure that allows views into the house from the garden. ...Although in the form of a traditional hanok, the Mumuheon is outfitted to facilitate modern life. A passageway, which has exposed rafters, was created to connect the master bedroom with the kitchen. This is not traditional, provides direct access. The room across the wood-floored main hall is furnished with the munbangsawu (“four friends of scholar’s studio”). When closet inside this room is opened, there lies the central nerve system of the house, containing control switches, audio and wireless internet equipment.
